It was the annual birthday party for my great uncle in Hicksville. Relatives and friends who are still speaking to one another in this side of the family gather for a feast every year. Interestingly, other than this once a year gathering, we really don’t communicate much except through email or Facebook, if that. Anyway, this was a great party because we had dessert first (cake). Then everyone enjoyed ribs that were smoked since 8 am, brisket, ketchup and scallions with shrimp, soy sauced chicken, Chinese vegetables, bean sprout with dried shrimp, sauteed green beans, and more. There was even a game of mah jong with my mother coaching the next generation of players. Too bad it was too cold to hop into the pool, but that didn’t stop Mads from dipping her feet. The 1-1/2 hour ride home was actually pleasant this year; no emergency stops along the way and no sitting in traffic. See you guys next year!
