Yankee Doodle Fair in Westport

Yankee doodle went to town, a-riding on a pony, stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni…

Ok, so we were riding dragons, dinosaurs, and elephants instead, and stuck an old Weston flag into our trunk, but it was a gorgeous night and we had FUN at the Yankee Doodle Fair in Westport at 44 Imperial Avenue. There was something for everyone to enjoy: rides for the kids, thrift shop/bake/children’s book sales in the auditorium within the premises of the Westport Woman’s Club, and fantastic international food (Chinese, American, Italian, and Greek). So, I had some pulled pork from Bobby Q’s, a chicken gyro from Four Brothers’ Pizza, and a mango smoothie from Jasmine Restaurant. Don’t forget to visit the Curio Cottage Thrift Shop; the prices will make you keep asking, “Is this really only $_?”  We got some cool stuff for cheap!

The fair continues through Sunday, with rides from 1-11 pm Saturday and 1-5 pm Sunday.

BnC tips:

  • Parking: park at the big lot on Jesup Road (off Imperial Ave); probably ok to park in the lots of offices along Imperial Avenue if they are closed
  • Logistics: the carnival is divided into 3 different lots and there are 4 rides appropriate for the younger kids (don’t forget the dinosaur ride by Thomas Road (don’t park there, they might tow)
  • Tickets: if your child loves rides, buy a wristband for $20 and ride unlimited from 1-5 pm on Sat and Sun. Well my daughter loves the rides, but we decided to just get $10 ($1 per ticket; $20 for 22 tickets). I went on the Dizzy Dino with Mads, but the other 3 she went on her own.
  • Strollers: keep them in the car if you can; it gets really crowded

Have fun!
