Book Talk: Mommy Book Club

June 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The Weston Newcomers and Neighbors Club is starting a mommy book club, which I am excited about. Before moving to CT, I was thinking of starting this type of group with the 3 gals I already know with some games of mah jong. For one reason or another, I sat on it. Now it’s happening sans mah jong, but a book club meeting for moms and a play date for kids at the same time is fantastic!

Our first meeting will be on July 27th at 10 am to discuss the book, The Ten Year Nap, by Megan Wolitzer. Light refreshments will be served. So far we have 4 moms. Interested? Email me and I’ll pass your name along to the Chair. Not a member, yet? Consider it as a trial class. Don’t see how you can possibly have time to read? Take the book out from the library and see how far you get. You might surprise yourself.

For our next book choices, I’m going to check out our local libraries for recommendations. Westport library has this service where they have several copies of these books and you can take them out specifically for book club meetings. It would also be fun to invite the author to virtually join us for part of the meeting.

If you’re a pro at moderating book discussions, what tips can you give us? What is an ideal group size for a good discussion? What types of questions should be asked of the participants, besides whether or not we like it? Please feel free to leave a comment or email bubblesncups@gmail.com. We’d appreciate your input.
